 Gladys Elphick




1904-was born in Wright Court, Adelaide
1922- Marriage with Tom Adams
1937- Husband died
1940- Married again 
1940- Joined the Aborigines Advancement League of South Australia
1960- served on its activities committee
1964-73- was founding president of the Council of Aboriginal Women of South Australia
1967-Federal responsibility for Aborigines
1966-71-was a member of the South Australian Aboriginal Affairs Board
1971-  was appointed MBE 
1973-The women's council changed its name to the Aboriginal Council of South Australia
1977- Founder of the Aboriginal Medical Service.
1988-  she died
2003 - International Women's Day Committee (South Australia) presented the inaugural                  Gladys Elphick award.
